Sveio municipality

Sveio municipality is located in Sunnhordland in Vestland county. The municipality is the southernmost municipality in the county, and has a mainland border with Rogaland county. Sveio municipality borders Haugesund and Tysvær in the south, across the fjord in the west to Bømlo, across the fjord in the north to Stord and across the Ålfjord in the east to Vindafjord.


Sveio is strategically located "in the middle of the everything", both when traveling by land and by sea. The coastal road E39 runs through the entire municipality, while the shipping line runs over the Sletta north of Haugesund, and through the Bømlafjorden.

The landscape in Sveio varies from open sea and bare cliffs, via heathers and small mountains, to productive agricultural and forestry land.

The highest mountain in Sveio is Trollavassnipen, which stretches 432 meters above sea level.


Throughout the municipality, there are many freshwater and marshy areas. A total of 22 square kilometers of the municipality is covered by fresh water. There are a total of 282 small and medium-sized lakes in Sveio, with Vigdarvatnet in the center of the municipality as the largest.
