Austevoll municipality

Austevoll is among the country's leading business municipalities with a truly diverse range of exciting jobs in both private companies and the public sector. Here you can choose to live in a town or village, in a detached house or apartment. The sea view is rarely far away.

It's a half-hour ferry ride to Bergen, so Austevoll offers the best of both worlds: both proximity to the big city's offers and activities, and a safe local community and slightly simpler everyday life in Austevoll.

In Austevoll, they want that people should be able to afford to live and stay. That's why the municipality doesn't have property taxes. The prices for after-school, cultural school and other public services are the lowest possible. There are three children's schools in the municipality, one of these Montessori schools, a junior high school and four kindergartens.

It is safe to live in Austevoll. The health services are well developed with, among other things, a doctor's office and emergency room, a health centre, midwifery and attendant services for hospitals, a dentist, a physiotherapist, a pharmacy and a health centre. The shopping and service offer is also rich. Here you will find restaurants, cafes and hotels, clothing and sports shops, electronics and woodwork shops, jewellers, shops that sell consignment goods, tools and furniture, grocery stores and convenience stores.

Austevoll is an eldorado of 667 small and large islands and islets. The nature is magnificent and great hiking trails both along the sea and up in the mountains make it easy to find time for the weekday workout. In the reef there are many open areas and even more hidden gems and bathing spots. There is a lot of activity in the sports movement and in association and cultural life. The

Austevoll is located midway between Bergen and Stord, with ferry connections and fast boats in both directions. With the fast boat you are at the center of Bergen in three quarters of an hour. From mid-August 2023 it is also free to travel on all ferries to and from Austevoll.

The municipality has approximately 5,300 inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants live on the five largest islands, which are linked together by bridges. There is also permanent year-round housing on the islands of Møkster and Litlakalsøy, which have a boat route to the rest of the municipality. The two towns in Austevoll are Storebø and Bekkjarvik.

In Austevoll you can get a job both on land and at sea, in one of our many hundreds of companies or in one of the municipality's many departments. Austevoll also has two county schools and the state marine research station, which is the largest marine research station in Northern Europe. This gives us a great variety of job opportunities and contributes to a vibrant and diverse municipality. We have room for even more people who want to live on our islands and become part of an inclusive and warm island community.
